1. Definitions
In these Terms and Conditions, the following words carry the meanings set out below:
- "Hearthroot," "we," "us," or "our" — refers to Hearthroot, a financial education provider operating at 5 Jalan Stesen, 30000 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.
- "You" or "User" — any person who visits this website, makes an enquiry, or enrols in a Hearthroot course.
- "Course" — any structured learning programme offered by Hearthroot, whether delivered in person, by digital means, or as a combination of both.
- "Content" — all written, printed, digital, or other material made available to you as part of a Course or on this website, including worksheets, templates, annotated examples, and written guides.
- "Agreement" — these Terms and Conditions together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, all of which form part of our relationship with you.
- "Enrolment" — the act of registering and paying for a Course, resulting in your right to participate in that Course under these Terms.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By using this website, submitting an enquiry, or enrolling in a Course, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
- You have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.
- If you are completing an enrolment on behalf of another person (for example, a spouse or parent), you confirm you have their authority to do so and that these Terms apply equally to them.
If you do not agree to any part of these Terms, please do not use this website or enrol in our Courses. You are welcome to contact us at [email protected] with any questions before proceeding.
3. Our Services
Hearthroot offers financial education Courses for adults aged 40 and above. Our current Courses include:
- Bills, Renewals, and the Yearly Calendar — a three-week practical course on household financial planning.
- Reading Your Bank and Card Statements with Fresh Eyes — a five-session course on understanding financial statements.
- Building the Household Reference Folder — a nine-module course on creating a comprehensive household financial record.
Course content, scheduling, delivery format, and pricing may be updated from time to time. We will communicate any material changes to enrolled participants in advance.
Our Courses are educational in nature. They are designed to help you understand and manage your personal finances more effectively. They are not a substitute for professional financial, legal, or tax advice tailored to your individual circumstances.
4. Enrolment & Participation Details
When you enrol in a Course:
- You will provide us with accurate contact details, including your name and email address. It is your responsibility to keep this information current.
- We will send you confirmation of your enrolment and joining instructions by email. Please check your inbox, including your junk or spam folder, after enrolment.
- Where digital course materials are provided, you are responsible for ensuring you have a suitable device and internet connection to access them.
- Your enrolment is personal to you and may not be transferred to another person without our written agreement.
5. User Responsibilities
When using this website and participating in our Courses, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, truthful information in any enquiry or enrolment form.
- Use course materials for your own personal, non-commercial learning only.
- Treat other participants, facilitators, and staff with consideration and respect.
- Not share, reproduce, distribute, or resell course materials, worksheets, or templates — whether in print or digital form — without our prior written consent.
- Not use this website or our Content in any way that is unlawful, deceptive, or harmful to others.
- Not attempt to access systems or data you are not authorised to access.
6. Intellectual Property
All Content on this website and within our Courses — including written materials, templates, worksheets, annotated examples, course structure, and design — is the intellectual property of Hearthroot and is protected under applicable Malaysian law, including the Copyright Act 1987.
Upon enrolment, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use course materials for your own private study and household planning. This licence does not permit you to:
- Copy, reproduce, or redistribute materials to others, whether for payment or otherwise.
- Use materials to create derivative works or competing educational products.
- Remove or alter any copyright or attribution notices within materials.
Feedback or suggestions you share with us may be used to improve our Courses without any obligation to you.
7. Payment & Refund Policy
7.1 Fees
Course fees are stated in Malaysian Ringgit (RM) and are as follows:
- Bills, Renewals, and the Yearly Calendar — RM 690
- Reading Your Bank and Card Statements with Fresh Eyes — RM 1,150
- Building the Household Reference Folder — RM 2,150
Fees are inclusive of all course materials, worksheets, and follow-up resources described in the course outline. Fees are subject to change; the fee applicable to your enrolment is the one confirmed at the time of your payment.
7.2 Payment
Full payment is required to confirm your enrolment. We will advise you of accepted payment methods when you contact us. Enrolment is not confirmed until payment has been received and acknowledged by us.
7.3 Cancellation and Refunds
- Cancellation by you, 14 or more calendar days before the course start date: Full refund, less any bank transfer or processing charges incurred.
- Cancellation by you, 7 to 13 calendar days before the course start date: 50% refund of the course fee.
- Cancellation by you, fewer than 7 calendar days before the course start date: No refund is available. You may, with our agreement, transfer your place to a later intake of the same course.
- Cancellation by Hearthroot: In the event that we cancel or significantly alter a course, you will receive a full refund or the option to transfer to a future intake.
Refund requests should be directed to [email protected]. We aim to process all refunds within 14 business days.
8. Course Participation
- Each course has a scheduled timetable that will be shared with you on enrolment. While we understand that life circumstances may occasionally prevent attendance, we are unable to offer makeup sessions for individual absences as a standard arrangement.
- If you miss a session, please contact us and we will do what we reasonably can to assist you continue.
- Completion of a course does not confer a professional qualification, accreditation, or licence of any kind. Certificates of attendance, where provided, are for personal records only.
- Course group sizes are intentionally kept small to support a comfortable learning environment. We reserve the right to decline an enrolment if a course is full, in which case we will notify you promptly.
9. Disclaimers
Our Courses are provided for educational purposes only. While we take care to ensure that information presented is accurate and up to date, we cannot accept responsibility for decisions you make based on what you learn in our Courses.
- Not financial advice: Content in our Courses does not constitute regulated financial advice within the meaning of Malaysian law. For advice specific to your circumstances, please consult a licensed financial planner or adviser.
- Not legal advice: Information about estate documents, digital assets, or executor responsibilities is educational in nature. For legal advice, please consult a qualified Malaysian lawyer or notary.
- Accuracy: Financial regulations, fee structures, and statutory requirements may change. We update our course content periodically, but we cannot guarantee that all information reflects the current position at the date you attend.
- Website availability: This website is provided on a reasonable-endeavours basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by Malaysian law:
- Our total liability to you, whether in contract, negligence, or otherwise, shall not exceed the total fees paid by you for the specific course to which a claim relates.
- We shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses, including financial decisions made on the basis of course content, loss of income, or loss of data.
- Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other matter that cannot be excluded by law.
- Force majeure: We are not in breach of these Terms if we are unable to perform our obligations due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, public health emergencies, or disruption to essential services.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Hearthroot, its facilitators, staff, and associates harmless from any claims, losses, damages, or costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of course materials, or any conduct by you that causes harm to a third party in connection with your participation in our Courses.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to end your participation in a Course, without refund, if:
- You behave in a manner that is disruptive, abusive, or harmful to other participants or to our staff.
- You breach these Terms in a material way and do not remedy the breach within a reasonable time after we have notified you of it.
- You misrepresent your identity or provide false information at enrolment.
In the event of termination, provisions that are intended by their nature to survive (including intellectual property rights, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute resolution) shall remain in full force.
13. Dispute Resolution
13.1 Informal Resolution

13.2 Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia. Relevant consumer protection legislation, including the Consumer Protection Act 1999, continues to apply.
14. General Provisions
- Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Hearthroot concerning your use of this website and participation in our Courses.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
- Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
- Assignment: You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights to a successor organisation without your consent, provided the successor continues to operate under broadly equivalent terms.
- Notices: Formal notices under these Terms may be sent by email to [email protected] or by post to our registered address at 5 Jalan Stesen, 30000 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, applicable law, or good practice. When we do so, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
- Notify currently enrolled participants of material changes by email.
Your continued use of this website or participation in a Course after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
